Internships at Island Dolphin Care

The Internship programs at Island Dolphin Care provide a unique experience for students and young professionals to observe and assist with the Dolphin Assisted Therapy programs and Marine Science Education programs at Island Dolphin Care.

A typical internship at Island Dolphin Care lasts between 4 and 8 weeks. Interns wishing to stay longer to complete research or for school credit must first speak with the IDC Internship Coordinator, Gretchen Thomasson.

Internships are provided on a first received/first considered basis. The schedule is generated beginning as much as a year in advance of any program season. We receive many applications for a small number of positions.

We are currently scheduling internships for the 2009 therapy season.  If interested, you will need to submit an application and two letters of recommendation as soon as possible.  Applications will continue to be accepted until all positions have been filled.  Please contact Gretchen Thomasson at internship@islandolphincare.org for more information.

**Candidates are encouraged to develop ideas for a project in the form of a research project, interviews with parents or children involved in the programs, create case histories, or journal articles, etc. Projects would be unobtrusive and observational in nature.
Interns are not allowed to train or feed the dolphins and are not permitted to do therapy with the children in the classroom or in the water. IDC tries to give interns a "behind the scenes" look as much as possible.
**If your internship is intended to fulfill requirements for university credit, we will work with universities or colleges to assure that your work is worthy of receiving credit. Requirements of internship for credit must be discussed with our team.
